    Eco house

The turfs laid, waiting for the carpets, telephone line and Sky (digital). Should move in by the end of the month.

    Eco house

I am currently eyeing a development near my house. It consists of six three-bedroom eco-homes, being built to meet Level 5 of the Code for Sustainable Homes. This means they will be 100% more energy efficient than standard building regulations.

Ultimately, residents will enjoy greatly reduced energy bills, while the environment will benefit from far lower carbon emissions.

Environmentally-friendly features include ground source heat pumps, which transfer heat from the ground to the building. This will not only heat all the hot water needed, but will also run the homes’ under-floor heating.

Meanwhile, photo voltaic panels on the roof will convert sunlight into electricity, while a rain water harvesting system will provide water for flushing toilets. High levels of insulation and triple-glazed windows will ensure minimum heat loss.

It is as interesting as HDTVand I have one month to withdraw my offer on  this sustainable, energy efficient, healthy home.

    Yanu is 3

Happy birthday to my boy. We started the day by opening presents, some of our friends already posted cards which we opened. He got a nice watch and a scooter from us before we took his brothers to nursery school so as to spend the day with him. We spent the day at Drusillas park. http://www.drusillas.co.uk/.
He's having the party this weekend with most of his friends and his grandparent.

    Voting Profile

I used the EU profiler to see if I've been backing the right horse in my voting, it turns out Nope! http://www.euprofiler.eu
The annoying thing is that I don't even have a strong enough opinions on some issues; I support solving global warming problems but I don't feel that strong about it when reducing the problems mean increasing unemployment. I have no opinion on euthanasia and I am neutral on immigration despite my struggle to immigrate. I would take the profile again close to the election, and if it stands as it is, then Labour Party here I come.

    My family

    December 17

    Oladipo's

Paul and family transited in London so they could spend few days (3 days) with us on their way to Nigeria. I was very happy to see Ronke and Jumoke that i last saw in South Africa like 8 years ago. Teju and Yemi were born in Canada so I got to see them for the first time. We spent yesterday in London with Yanu visiting Buckingham palace, Big Ben and the london eye.

    traditional christmas dinner

Whats your traditional Christmas dinner? I mean what does your family eat at Christmas?
As a kid the only thing special for me at Christmas was the clothes, i got to shop for new jeans and shirt. Food was the same as any other day partly because we were not Christians and partly because chicken was everyday meal, festive or no festive.
But for the past 4 years my traditional Christmas meal has been Rabbits, let me remind you that my wife is German and we got married 4 years ago, since I had no Christmas tradition it was obvious we were gonna go for hers and men! rabbit's very tasty.
Romy's parent are around this weekend which means we had Christmas early. I forgot Yanu is now big enough to understand and I kept yabbing 'we are eating Rabbits! My boy asked 'are we eating My Friend rabbit'? (his favourite program on tv) my wife quickly came to my rescue, 'no! not that Rabbit, just rabbit'. She then told me not to talk about it. We had our meal in peace but I kept wondering, we eat chicken all the time, as a matter of fact my Yanu loves chicken, he also love chicken little (he has a blue ray copy) and was never bothered or link the chicken little with chicken that he eats. Why do we think we protect kids by lieing to then. As a kid I had chickens as pets and my mom would ask me to pick any for dinner, and I enjoyed having my chickens for dinner as much as I enjoyed chasing them about.

    happy birthday to me

Its my birthday today, and its the best birthday in my 41 years. I've always known that having a loving family would make me happy, I did not know it would make me content. I feel like I am retired to a resort area living off my wealth and with my family around me, yes it is the best birthday ever.
Romy gave me what i told you before, My children gave me Dido cd, Calin also a cd; neyo  and Mikayla also gave a cd Beyonce. I got calls fromNigeria, Taiwan, US, Canada, and e-mail messages from web pages I dont even remember i joined and it feels good. Oh! facebook was awesome. And the way Romy looks at me lately, I wonder why it has to be this time of the month for her.

    snow

I woke up to a phone call from Mikaylla asking me to look outside, looked outside n it was white, a nice blanket of snow and still dropping, flaking. So me being a little crazy n excited, went to Yanu's room, wake up! wake up! snow outside! he did.  Romy's already awake, she had Kayin while i picked Taye and moved to the lounge window, I really dont know what the 3 month old twins were thinking but i'll say 'hmm this planet isnt bad afterall'.

    she's spoiling me

Romy asked me a while ago what I would like for my birthday, I answered jokingly that I would like a HDTV for my birthday on the first of December, I would like a blue ray player for Christmas and a home cinema for New year. This morning she told me Currys is having a special on all three and I better go and get it myself if I still wanted it.  I rushed to Currys before she changed her mind at the same time thanking my star for such a wonderful wife.

    Study note: nanotech

    t-nano_10

When most people think of chemistry, they think of lab coats, Bunsen burners, and the cryptic periodic table. They don't usually think of history. But chemistry has a fascinating story to tell.

    Molecular Milestones
From fireworks and flamethrowers to understanding oxygen and fueling cars Molecular Milestones is your window on the often weird world of chemistry from ancient times to the new millennium. Its surprising to know that fluoride treatment began with brown teeth in Colorado Springs more than 100 years ago, that the British almost lost World War 2 because they stole seeds from Brazil in 1876 and Alchemists did lay the foundations of experimental science though did not succeed in turning base metals into gold.

    Ancients & Alchemists
The alchemists are often associated with the occult- but much of what they did was real science.

    Matter & Molecules
    A
chievements of the chemical and molecular sciences from the 18th century to today, including the discovery of oxygen, the uncovering of the DNA double helix and the contributions of Lavoisier,Mendeleev, and Pauling.

    Chemistry of Life
Organic chemistry, biochemistry, photosynthesis, pharmaceuticals, genetics, diseases and more.

    Polymers: Molecular Giants
If you’ve heard of nylon, rayon, vinyl, Teflon, or Tupperware, then you’ve heard of polymers. Discover the people and science behind these "macromolecules."

NEW! Nanotechnology: Nanoscale science, engineering, and technology can be characterized as sets of fundamental knowledge and enabling technologies derived from efforts to understand and control the properties and function of matter at the nanoscale dimension— that is, at a scale on the order of one-billionth of a meter, or approximately 1/100,000th of the width of a strand of human hair.

Gold nanoparticles have a long history–from stained glass in the 15th century to cutting-edge research in curing cancer. Talk about a precious metal!

    First-known nano application: Stained glass
Without understanding the underlying theory, artists in the 18th century used gold and silver particles to make red and yellow stained glass.

    1860s: Carbon black nanoparticles used
A descendent of lampblack first produced by the Chinese more than 3500 years ago, carbon black is one of the oldest nano-sized particles used by humans.

    1938: Invisible glass invented
Irving Langmuir and Katherine Blodgett were pioneering General Electric research scientists. Together they invented Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) film by placing one-molecule-thick barium stearate films on top of each other to create a coating that could be applied to solid surfaces such as metal or glass.

    1955: Individual atoms imaged
In 1951 the academic journal Zeitschrift für Physik published an article by Erwin Mueller, then a professor at the Kaiser-Wilhelm Institute in Germany, that described an instrument called a field ion microscope (FIM).

1960: Nano research wins a Nobel
Classical, or conventional, physics teaches us that an object cannot get from point A to point B if there is a barrier between the points. But what if it can?

At the atomic level, where quantum physics takes over, electrons can indeed “tunnel” through from one side of a barrier to the other. In 1958 Leo Esaki, then at Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo (now Sony Corporation), demonstrated that tunneling through semiconductors (materials that have conductivity between a conductor and an insulator) was possible.

    1977: Nano research scales up
A proposal to the National Science Foundation for a National Research and Resources Facility for Submicron Structures and its subsequent establishment at Cornell University spurred the construction of other nanotechnology research centers.

    1981: IBM's Scanning Tunneling Microscope

The first scanning tunneling microscope was invented in 1981 by Gerd Binnig and Heinrich Rohrer of IBM's Zurich Lab in Switzerland. Scanning tunneling microscopes use the quantum mechanics principle of electron tunneling to scan a conductive sample’s surface.

    1979: Precision molecules discovered
Traditionally polymers are long and chaotic, and their manufacturing process yields molecules in an unpredictable range of sizes. Dendrimers, however, are a special type of polymer that can be grown in a precise manner. Because each successive generation is grown symmetrically based from an older branch, it’s possible to design and control the shape of the dendrimer as it is being produced.

    1985: Bucking conventions
Composed of 60 carbon atoms, buckyballs resemble a union of two geodesic domes, a shape made famous by the architect R. Buckminster Fuller.

2000: Nano in the 21st Century
The quest to obtain major government funding for nanotechnology spanned almost a decade and two presidencies. Members of several federal agencies began meeting informally in the winter of 1996 to better coordinate nanoscale scientific research on a federal level. Two years later, the team was officially recognized as the Interagency Working Group on Nanotechnology, and its purpose was outlined: to conduct workshops and studies to define the state of the art in nanoscale science and technology and to forecast possible future developments.

Recent achievements in nanotechnology funded in whole or in part by the NNI include quantum dots, nano-electro-mechanical sensors, nanocomposite energetic materials, prototype molecular electronics data storage devices, and nanoparticles for water contaminant removal.

    Blame it on facebook

Hello ! I have not forgotten you. I intended to write an end-of-week-one post and got sidetracked by my life, which is to be expected. I'm sorry I didn't tell you of iteach, oh! do you know we now have twins? 2  lovely boys Taye and Kayin. I promise I'll keep you posted from now on.

    Quality time with Yanu

Its 2 weeks Easter break at work, I decided to have Yanu with me for a week and spend the other week alone. We both enjoyed the bonding and I took lots of pictures about the week. I came across mouth piece mute for my saxophone, its the ideal piece of instrument (the silencer) in that I am learning to play the sax just with the mouthpiece and I can play anywhere at anytime. Its like just blowing a simple whistle without the annoying noise. The silencer comes with a manual and dvd that helps in mouth exercise and learning to play. I have been playing my sax (the mouth piece) everyday since last week.
I woke up this morning looking for my tooth brush only to find a new cool one in its place, that's marriage.

    Sax bag

I bought my saxophone in 2002, got a teacher and played frequently in 2002. I played on my own in 2003 and hasn't touched the instrument since then. It look beautiful in the corner of my room and I took occasional pride in cleaning it. I used to think I would retire to a resort town and play fine tune for tourists. So why aren't you playing anymore? since I am too considerate to upset my neighbors I have to wait till I get the mute sax bag as a gift from my wife then I can play her lovely tunes.

    Why Taye and Ky?

Call it patriotism but since we are not based in Yorubaland our names should at least link us to the motherland. My boy is Iyanuoluwa or Yanu, my daughter is Omotanwa or Tanwa. According to the yoruba tradition the first of the twins to be born is traditionally named OMOTAYELOLU (the child came to taste life excels) or shortened to TAYE or TAIWO, while the second is referred to as OMOKEHINDE (the child came last) or shortened to KEHINDE, KENNY or KY. It is believed that KY sent TAYE to check out what life is on earth and tell him if good or not, therefore TAYE goes as sent by KY and becomes the first child to be born. He then communicates to KY spiritually (believed to be from the way he cries)If life is going to be good or not, the reply therefore determines if KY would be born alive or become a still birth, or both returning to where they came from (Underworld) if the reply from TAYE is not good enough for them. Due to this, the yoruba believes that KY is the eldest amongst the twin despite being the last to be born because he sent TY on an errand which only someone older than you could do in Yorubaland. KY is therefore referred to as OMOKEHINDEGBEGBON (The child came last gets the eldest). TAYE is believed to be and mostly the quiet, calmer and introverted of the twin while KY is the mostly believed to be the extroverted soul according to the yoruba belief.

    Twin Pram: Team Alu S4

One of the greatest things about pregnancies is the preparation for the baby or in this case babies. I’ve spent the last weeks shuffling through web pages looking for a twin pram, I saw many good ones but weight has been the major impediment. For now Team Alu S4 seems to be the one.

We are calling them by their names already, Taye is the boy and Ky is the girl.

    Happy bithday

It was my birthday on Saturday  the 1st of December, Layla celebrated hers same day as she turns 8 on the 3rd of December which happens to be on Monday. Layla sang a happy birthday song to me and that was so cool. My family and friends made the day special. Romy's parent drove down from Germany, I had calls from Nigeria and South Africa and my local friends came by. Now that I'm 40 what am I gonna do?
